STYLE AND FORMATTING (Set up your own templates)
by Wanda C. Keesey

There are many short cuts and ways to format and change formatting in Microsoft Word. I’m working with 2003, but many of the previous models have the same attributes.

I’ll start with setting up a personalized Style.  When you open a new document, and if you have the Formatting tool bar displayed, you will see a drop down box on the left.  It will display Normal.  Look at the other items on the drop down.  You will see several Headings and perhaps a Clear Formatting.  Each are printing in the style that you will see if you click on that item.

But what if you don’t want to use any of the preset styles?  Well you can set up your own.  Select More at the bottom of the list.  The Styles and Formatting tools will appear on the right side of your screen.  Select New Style… use this to name your style and set the parameters; Font, Size of font, Line spacing, Alignment AND you can select the Format button at the bottom of the box and set elements that also appear on your Menu toolbar.   When you’ve finished be sure to select Add to Template.   This will put you unique style on the Style and Formatting drop menu.
