Getting it Write
By Wanda C. Keesey
Have you ever thought, "I could write a book"
Just about everyone has at one time or another, but a relative few put their words in print. Some who haven't--should. I've read that you're a writer if you "have" to write.
Do you write long newsy letters to your friends and relatives (email counts)? Do you write detailed reports for your employer? Do you read a story in the paper and wonder, what if?
What if? That's the number one question for all writers. Things don't just happen, not for a writer. No, one thing leads to another, and another, and another, until before you know it, you have a story, or a novel.
Writers don't write because they're going to make a lot of money. Writers write because they have no choice. It's in their blood. It's on their mind (all the time). They have to write. Be it fiction or non-fiction; short stories or reports; novels or letters; plays or journals: writers have to write.
The hardest part of writing is that first word. The first sentence. The first paragraph. From there to the end--well okay, it's not always easy. The editing and critiques (that are a must) do take some of the fun out of that great story. Marketing your work is a job all in itself, but watching the words form on paper telling YOUR story, about YOUR characters, in YOUR words--Well that's not just fun, its satisfying AND it’s a must--if you're a writer.
